Hundreds of runners and volunteers take part in the Heads & Tails Pikesville 5K Run/Walk & Doggie Dash. We are excited to launch this new race with our community, the Heads & Tails Pikesville 5K Run/Walk & Doggie Dash! The race supports two great causes, the Baltimore Humane Society and the Greater Baltimore Chamber of Commerce (formerly the Pikesville-Owings Mills Chamber). The morning’s events will feature a 5K Run/Walk (dogs can participate in this event), a Doggie Dash, a Vendor Village, and a Post-Race Celebration!

Charitable Giving: help us Raise Money for the baltimore humANE SOCIETY

In alignment with our mission to support the wellbeing of our community, the Greater Baltimore Chamber will donate a portion of our 5K proceeds to our nonprofit partner, Baltimore Humane Society, a 501(c)(3). Participants can help raise money for the Baltimore Humane Society by creating their own RunSignUp page. Scroll down for more information.

Early Bird 5K Registration: $35 through August 17, 2022 (one runner; or, one runner plus one dog)
Standard 5K Registration: $40 after August 17, 2022 (one runner; or, one runner plus one dog)
Race Day 5K Registration: $45 September 18, 2022 (one runner; or, one runner plus one dog)
Kids 5K Registration: $25 – Ages 12 and under (includes a cotton t-shirt) – discount will be applied at check-out.
Doggie Dash Half Mile Registration: $25  through August 17; $35 after August 17 (one dasher; or, one dasher plus one dog)
Kids Doggie Dash Half Mile Registration: $15 — Ages 12 and under (does not include shirt. cotton t-shirt can be purchased during registration for $10)

REGISTRATION FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE AND NON-TRANSFERABLE. There are no refunds of entry given or transfers of entry permitted for this event.

Race Morning: Onsite from 6:30 am – 7:30 am


Pre-Race Warm Up with Garrison Forest School athletes. Commemorative t-shirt guaranteed for the first 500 runners/walkers and kids registered by August 18 (Note: Doggie Dash ages 12 and under does not include shirt. cotton t-shirt can be purchased during registration for $10); water stops; on-site first aid; on-site veterinarian. Post-race snacks and bottled water. Vendor Village and Kids Korner with family-friendly activities through 10:30 a.m..

Parking will be available in two locations across from Garrison Forest School Campus.
MD Furniture parking lot. 9800 Reisterstown Rd. This lot is reserved for participants with dogs participating in the Doggie Dash. Doggie Dash participants will receive a parking tag to display on their vehicle’s dashboard.
Overflow Parking (TBD, near course site). Reserved for 5K Run/Walk participants. Shuttle buses will be available for those who wish to be shuttled across Reisterstown Road to the course.
No participant parking at Garrison Forest School except for 5K Volunteers.

Doggie Dash Details & Course

Here’s a rundown of everything you need to know for you and your pup to have the best possible experience at the First Annual Heads & Tails Doggie Dash. For help with your personal fundraising page, donations, and other technical questions, please contact Charm City Run – events@charmcityrun.com.

Our First Annual Doggie Dash will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 18 on a separate ½ mile grassy course at Garrison Forest School.

Online registration is $25. This fee includes one handler, a commemorative t-shirt, and a pet bandana.

Meet our Mascot
Garrison Forest School faculty, staff, and students participated in a Doggie Dash Mascot contest in June. Meet Scout, our winner! She’s a golden retriever who loves to chase ice cubes across the floor. What does your dog love to do? Follow Scout on social media! @pikesville5K

Doggie Dash Course
Our Doggie Dash course is a ½ mile grassy course on the pet-friendly campus of Garrison Forest School. All dogs must be on a non-retractable leash. You can run, walk or jog at your own pace with your leashed dog. The Doggie Dash is strictly a “fun run” and is not a timed event. Most participants enjoy a leisurely stroll.

The Pikesville 5K
The 5K is separate from the Doggie Dash.
 The Doggie Dash is a separate event and takes place at 8:30 a.m., not far from the 5K course.

Doggie Dash Prizes
We will have fun pet prizes for the pups that come in first, second, and third place. The race is not timed and winners will be determined by our Doggie Dash Celebrity Judges—all in good fun and for a good cause!

Doggie Dash Race Bib 
All registered Dashers and their dogs will receive a race bib. Avoid the line by getting your bib and commemorative t-shirt at one of our pre race day Packet Pick Up locations.


Pet Festival/Vendor Village
In addition to the Heads & Tails Pikesville 5K and Doggie Dash, all participants can take advantage of the many free activities at the pet festival! Be sure to have your race bib with you to show you’re registered!


Heads & Tails Fundraising 
Fundraising can be fun and rewarding with a great cause! Participants can help raise money for the Baltimore Humane Society by participating Your donations save the lives of hundreds of shelter animals at the Baltimore Humane Society each year. Be sure to set up a fundraising page during the registration process.

How do I win prizes?

  • By reaching fundraising milestones!
    Earn prizes by reaching the five fundraising milestones: $65, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, and $2,500. The top three individual and team fundraisers will receive terrific prizes from our participating sponsors.

    Join us on Sunday, September 18, 2022. You won’t want to miss amazing raffle and vendor giveaways — all supported by our local business partners and compassionate corporate supporters! Employees of GBCC and Baltimore Humane Society are not eligible for raffle and vendor giveaways.

Fundraising Deadlines
The top three individual and team fundraisers will be announced at the Doggie Dash starting line on September 18, 2022. To be considered for a top fundraising category, all in-person cash/check donations must be received or hand-delivered to Baltimore Humane Society at least 48 hours prior to the event.

All online donations are credited to fundraisers automatically and will count toward prize milestones. Online donations must be made no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on September 17, 2022 to qualify for prizes.

Prizes for Fundraising Participants
Fundraising prizes will be available for pickup at a special event at the Baltimore Humane Society in late September. Stay tuned for more details on exciting prizes for each fundraising milestone from our sponsors and local businesses! Prizes can also be mailed to you for the cost of pre-paid shipping/handling.
